Abstract

Beef livestock activity experiences strong and recurring ups and downs that affect not only producers and consumers but also impact prices and the domestic inflation rate, foreign exchange income derived from meat exports and other important variables. This article is the starting point of a broader study about the effects of the livestock cycle on the economy as a whole. It aims to make a description of the cattle farming cycle over the last forty years and the characteristics of some specific cycles.
